Distribution of Dietary Risk Factors in Iran: National and Sub-National Burden of Disease

Background : Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are one of the greatest threats to public health, and have been related poor quality dietary patterns. This study was conducted determine distribution risk factors in Iran. Methods Cross-sectional data gathered between April November 2016 from 30,541 eligible adults (out 31 050 individuals who were selected through systematic proportional size cluster random sampling) living urban rural areas, using WHO-based STEPs factor questionnaire. Low intakes fruits, vegetables, dairy products, fish, high salty processed food (SPF), as well daily intake hydrogenated fat (HF) considered nutritional factors. Results At national level, 82.8% (95% CI: 82.4-83.2), 57.8% 57.2-58.4), 80.6% 80.1-81) 90.3% 90-90.6) participants all age groups had sub-optimal products respectively. Furthermore, 12.8% 12.4-13.1), 29.4% 28.9-29.9) respondents SPF HF use, sub-national highest suboptimal fruits (97.2%; 95% CI:96-98.3), vegetables (79.2%; 76.3-82.1) (92.9%; 91-94.7) observed Sistan Baluchistan. Except for Boushehr Hormozgan, majority population other provinces consumed fish less than twice a week. Similarly, found mostly Yazd (23.7; 20.2-27.2). consumption North Khorasan (64.2%; 60.3-68.1). Conclusion These findings highlight widespread Iran, which should be priority people politicians order prevent NCDs.
